ok.. I have myself and 2 kids.... how do I work this?
Son is 16 daughter is 13.
Can I bring them both?
Do I have to be with them when they are hunting?
I dont mind paying for the boy if I need too.
Would the bunk house fee be 25.00 for each of us?

I am thinking this is gonna be a must for us this year.
Tomme
12-10-2010, 05:05 PM
Recar, bring them both. Part of what LSBA is all about is getting the kids into the woods. Yes the bunkhouse fee is $25/kid and your hunt is the standard $150. The kids don't have to be hunting with you, but I would want them in your area. By that, if you want to put one of you on a feeder and string the other two along the feed route in your area, that's ok. You of course are responsible for their safety, etc. but we don't make you hunt the same spot. Heck I want all of you to score.

Tomme

Kelly it will be the regular fee of $150 ($75/day) for the two day hunt on you, and your daughter and her cameraman would be a $25 bunkhouse fee for each.

Some of these have been answered, but to sum up you can pay using credit card or with a check through Dena. Nonrefundable deposit is 50%. Exit 110 you can make sure that Ronny brings me back my stands and can use those, (also duck decoys as it looks like I'll be an old man before I get to use them in Cumby).
I like short tripods for pigs (six to 10 feet). Popups are good for turkey, and practice your calling.
No one has yet won the concrete pig, so if you shoot trad and want to put $5 in and sign the sucker then maybe you can take it home.
Looks like it's shaping up to be a good hunt.

OK that does it Slayer and Michael, I'm hunting recurve as well. Someone will win the concrete pig. (Did I mention that I'm someone?). Ronny will try to slip in unannounced, but no challenge there.
Also, that's great on the guitar Michael. As you know I have no shame and will sing along whether I know the song or not. So we sing for a couple of hours and then slip out for a midnight stalk along the roads. Doesn't get any better! Life is good!

12-22-2010, 09:17 PM
Michael, you pay $5 for a chance to win the conrete pig. You're also supposed to sign it so that when I win it, your name will be on the along with that of all the other people I'll beat. Leastwise I'll beat you if I can overcome the "Curse of the Concrete Pig". So far no one who has entered to win it has harvested a hog.
It's supposed to be the biggest hog, and we'll go with field dressed weight on this one. So far a trad kill of 5 lbs would have won (if you had entered). I've had three shots so far and there have been some notable trad guys that have also not had a harvest. Once you enter to win the pig you are cursed and can just figure on going home baconless.

12-23-2010, 01:08 PM

Tomme
12-23-2010, 06:24 PM
Ha! I've heard that before. Say, if we're all hunting Indian style with longbows and recurves maybe you should play Cherokee nation, or some other suitable Redskin song.

Sorry, but been busy since last weekend. Jon and I went on the banquet hunt that I won last summer in the raffle. Two hogs and one rattlesnake down. Between processing my hog, teaching five classes, playing bridge, planting my garden and fishing I haven't had time to scratch. Retirement living is tough.
Kelly, so far there's 4 boys and two girls, and that doesn't count Brad.
There are 36 signed up for the hunt so far, and that also doesn't include Brad, because the cheapskate hasn't sent his money in yet.
I did finally get Strickland's. Fine how do you do, when the two guys heading the hunt committee are so late.

I may bring a dog too. I'm a little cautious about it though, seems the rattlesnakes are out and about now.
I have a question about the night hog hunting...
Do you guys attach a light to your bow or just use the moonlight? I don't think my Sarrells has an insert to attach a light. If the moon is anything like Feburary's full moon, won't need a light.
I'm really looking forward to this hunt. I've been practicing my turkey calling. Good thing no one rides with me every day - the clucks and yelps would drive them crazy.

Slayer, Ronny answered some of this, but just to make sure for you and anyone else.
Bring your favorite type of stand, pop ups work and so do short (6-10ft tripods). There are some areas where a chain on will work, but not all that many.
Cabins have bunk beds, bring your sleeping bag.
There are some pots and pans there, but bring paper plates, cups, plastic forks that sort of thing. They have stoves and bar-b-qs for cooking.
There are feeders and they have a feed route, but I'd bring a bag of corn for morning hunts and if you want to sweeten a spot. Note the corn route is not a continuous feed so you may have a spot on it, but still need to feed it.
If you have a turkey call and or decoy, bring them.
We have a fun balloon shoot, cost $5, if you shoot trad and want to try to take home the concrete pig it's also $5. We may have some raffles, but that hasn't been decided yet.
OK Dennis you owe a minimum of $75 (not to mention what I'll charge for interest and a late fee).
We currently have 40 people signed up for the hunt. We can still take a few more as typically the kids hunt with their sponsor.
I'd recommend hip waders if you're around Ronny or Brad. They are not known for truthful utterances. Now me you can trust.

They are 13. We have been shooting everyday as well. I shoot compound, but recently got a recurve. Shooting it everyday, positive I can take a pig with it.

This is my first year of G&G. Turkey season starts Saturday. So I guess Friday is for hogs, scouting and pink loin cloth fashion show, right? How are pastures/cabins assigned? Do we have group meals at supper where Steve and Tomme pick and grin? Can someone give us newbies a rundown?
biggen
03-14-2011, 09:04 AM
No group meals because some stay out late for hogs but usually there are a lot of people around eating! When you arrive you will draw for a feeder area. Meaning there is usually 100 acres around a feeder that you can hunt!! The feeder you draw will determine where you sleep!!

The one time I was there you did not need 4X4, but another time, a boat would not have helped you. Right Ronny.

Nope, one pig hit but not found several saw or heard turkeys close but could not get them to respond to calls. Everybody saw a lot of deer because they are starving to death and loved the corn!!
