Heading south in the morning for First Point. Marshall will get to hunt Friday thru Monday. This is all thanks to the Lonestar Bowhunters Association. He entered an essay and won the hunt. I promise as many pics and updates as service allows.....

Gotta finish packing as 4:00 will get here early in the morning.
Here is the essay that won hime the prize, for those that missed it.

Why I Bow Hunt
By Marshall Cochran

My name is Marshall Cochran and I am ten years old, I got started on bow hunting when I was five and a half. I had a lot of inspiration because my father bow hunts and for as long as I can remember I have always wanted to shoot bows.
My very first bow was a small little red bow. One of my earliest memories is my dad putting a tree stand in our backyard. I would climb up in it and practice shooting my bow out of it just like I was hunting.
Another one of my experiences was when last year. My father took me bow hunting for deer. On the morning hunt we saw a lot of pigs, and even shot one. Later on that afternoon we went back to the same stand. It started to rain a little. As it got harder I really didn’t want to leave. My dad we’ll wait ten more minutes, if we don’t see anything we will have to leave. At that very moment a doe came out and my dad shot her. That was very exciting because it was the first time I saw my dad shoot a deer with his bow. I didn’t realize he still got excited when deer came out. Dad said a prayer of thanks and even let me track the deer. I decided then that bow hunting was the way to go for me!
The next day I kept on practicing with my bow. My dad put a dollar bill on the target and said if I hit it I could have it. I drew, concentrated and nailed with my first arrow! The target was about twenty yards away and I was pumped. I tried to get him to do it again but he said the way I shoot could get expensive.
So I guess the reason I started bow hunting is because of my dad. For my birthdays and at Christmas he is always getting me new stuff for my bow. The reason I keep bow hunting is a little different. I really enjoy sitting in a tree stand instead of a box blind. Being out in the woods were you are really on top of the animals is just cool. I also like that you have to go out and scout during the summer. My dad has taught me a lot about where he puts his deer stands and why. This year we have put double stands t all of our spots so we can both bow hunt at the same time. Its also pretty neat that I can practice and shoot my bow in my back yard any time I want.
Bow hunting at my house is just a way of life. At least that’s what my dad says. He puts in a lot of hard work for me so I can bow hunt with him. We spend a lot of time together at the deer lease, and that probably the best reason I like to bow hunt. It is to spend time with my dad.

Marshall, that was a very good essay that you wrote. I really enjoyed it. I also enjoy hunting from tree stands or tripods, but where we hunt now, we do not have a lot of areas to do that. Good luck on your hunt, and cannot wait on the stories and LDP's.

To Everyone else, Good luck this weekend and have a safe trip to and from First Point.

By some of the post that I have seen, looks pretty good for your hunt.
Bob

Many many "Thanks" to everyone involved in putting on this event. Everyone had a great time.

Payton and I made it home safely too. He killed a 6.5 foot Diamondback Rattlesnake with his bow this morning while on the way to take down our popup blind. The snake has 16 rattles.

Wow! Taking that rattler out was quite a feat with a bow! From what I can tell, it was a head shot or close to the head.

Way to go on the 8 point rns!
