Had a big 10 coming in when out of the brush stepped a 200# hog, well the deer left, so no buck for me. But I have pork in the freezer. Shot him at 18 yards, he went 40 yards. Had a good time and I'm going back this weekend and try the big buck one more time.

Had a spike at 8 yards for 29 minutes on Saturday....let him walk. Had the same spike on Sunday at 6 to 12 yards for 16 minutes......let him walk. He better not be around this weekend......a man can only handle so much pressure!

Well, shot over a doe yesterday. Don't know what I was thinking, but it wasn't about the shot. Glad it was a clean miss.

Have not been to the woods yet, but I scored a strong contender for the annual awards yesterday. A non-typical that green scored 180 3/8 gross and 173 1/8 net from Tom Green County.
Will get two new LSBA members out of the deal

I don't know how you guys can stand staying out of the woods. Who shot the Tom Green deer? Was it a San Angelo person?

Way to go Biggen!!!
My daughter DJ and I both got antelope in WY in Sept.
She has another pig and I a turkey so far for this fall here in TX. Not to many deer moving yet as this is the biggest acorn year I can remember. I set most of my stands up for south wind and it has been out of the north each time I have gone to the lease.

That's great chunky. Tell your daughter congratulations. That's one to really be proud of. Bring her on the spring hunt and we'll let her have a free entry on the concrete pig (to win, she will have to shoot it with a recurve though). She looks too good a shot with the wheels.

Thanks Tomme,
we will be at the spring hunt for sure. i don't know if i will ever get her off those wheels :D she likes being able to out shoot me. i am done telling her how good she is doing...her head is getting to big for the tent blind
i will be bringing the concrete piggy for round 2, hope someone wins it this time, that thing is heavy to haul back and forth!
good hunting to everyone.

Well, I'll make an effort to be in on the spring hunt. Having it on the same weekend as the Hill Country Shootout worked out great for me. Maybe we can set it up the same again.
Thought I was finally going to get to fill a tag yesterday, but the deer saw me from 50 yards out. Wasn't sure if it wanted to trust that big blob of something in the tops of those mesquite so it just hung out snorting and stomping. It left and about 30 minutes later came back. This time it got to within 30 yards but no shooting lanes and it was more alert than a B-52 crew. The fawn busted me when an arrow hung on a limb and it lit out, so big doe just turned and walked away. I went ahead and headed in for the evening knowing I'd get no shots that evening. My quadpod was just too visible. Tonight I removed the quadpod and set up a ground blind in the same location, but, low enough to provide concealment. Maybe I'll get a shot another day.
For now, I'm getting set to take my boy out come opening day of the general. Looking forward to the time when he can shoot hunting weight bows.

Anyone know when the Hill Country shoot is? I'd like to have the Grunts and Gobbles hunt on the full moon weekend in April so long as it isn't Easter of course.
Bought a finger glove today and was shooting my recurve. Seems to be more accurate than my tab. Anyone have an explanation?
The concrete pig is mine!

I've got a moon calendar at work. I'll check it tomorrow. Hopefully, they'll fall in line with each other.

Tracy i've got one that Biggen sent me. The full moon weekend is the 23-24th and that's what I might shoot for if it isn't Easter. Need to check with others to make sure that this wouldn't be too late in Turkey season for them, but it would be ideal for hogs.
Now when is the Hill Country Shoot going to be?

Chunky, congrats to your daughter and yourself on the antelope.
I took this elk in Colorado in September. Have not had a chance to hunt our new lease yet. Been to busy getting everything set up. Things are looking good though, have seen lots of deer and pigs while tending to the feeders. :P

Sounds like alot of good stories for the magazine!! Nice bull Bobster! Cull I also had a shot at an axies doe on the fellowship hunt if only she would have taken two more steps. Nice Doe!
Thanks Biggen. I would have gladly traded her for your great looking buck! LOL
That is the first Axis I have taken and hope to get a nice tanned hide out of the deal. The meat is unbelievable.

 Here is Robert's buck off of the Brushy Creek was it? Sorry, I don't ever know where he is going hunting next. He went here as an LSBA hunt and had a great time. He met some new friends, and enjoyed some old ones. This buck will make it into the Pope & Young record books, but has some drying to go through to get an official score one it. I believe Larry Z. and Rob scored it at 141 (but not sure... can't remember specific details) but somewhere around there. Rob is tickled pink!

Anything new to post? :?: Dead this week however might finally get cool!!
I am in a deer drought. Let's hope the cooler weather will turn the tide.
I took this doe in the hill country on November 7th. I got tired of her stomping around my stand.

Way to go Cull.
I took a buck with my rifle yesterday. Was letting my boy hunt with me. He couldn't get a shot and I wanted meat. Well, couldn't or wouldn't, I'm not too sure. He never cocked the hammer. Now, as soon as he can get a shot, I'll be back to bowhunting. He's making me proud though. If he doesn't have a shot, he doesn't cock the hammer. He keeps looking hard too. Doing good. Just a couple more years before he's ready for a legal weight longbow. Then he can go with me bowhunting.
I've got plans for a certain 10 pt that envolves a 530 grain POC with zwickey 2 blade head. Gonna get my boy a shot at something and then, I've got an appointment to keep. Meanwhile, does look out. I like to shoot my longgun too sometimes.
Dude, there's this nice 10 point coming to my corn. Saw him last week when I took Justin. Justin said he never saw the horns, but I did. There were about 4 different shots he could have taken on it too. But, he said he couldn't see him. Dang, that was the best buck I've seen on the place. On one hand, I'm glad Justin didn't get the shot (so I'll have a chance with my bow), on the other, I'm sorry. It would've been an awesome first deer. I'm guessing it probably would measure about 135 - 140".
Hopefully, next Saturday I'll be able to go back out with my bow. Right now, it's Justin's turn.

I only see those deer in pictures. Give him a good punch in the jaw for me and tell'm good job. 5 yards is a good thing.
That is an awesome buck no two ways about it.
What a beast. It would have needed to be 5 yards for me to hit it with all the shaking I would be doing. Incredible deer.
