We went to Goldthwaite, TX over the weekend and did some hunting with dajcentex. I got 2 does within 30 minutes on Saturday morning, but the big story of the weekend is what my son did.

Brent, my son, brought his .223 so he could try for a deer on Saturday afternoon. We were going to sit together in a ground blind setup around a dried up river bed and 30 yards from a feeder. We parked the truck and started our 500 yard walk to the pop-up blind. After we walked about 60 yards, I noticed something moving through the high grass in front of us. It was some turkeys. I talked to my son and we (I http://www.myoutdoorforum.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) had agreed for me to shoot it with my bow so we wouldn't make too much noise and disturb our deer hunting. So I laid the stalk down on 'em and when I got to around 40 yards, I stood up and got to full draw only to notice that my peep site had flipped in between the strings, so I let-off. There wasn't anyway I could accurately shoot so I backed off and went back to where my son was standing. We decided that he was going to take the shot at one. So again, we laid the stalk down and I had the shooting sticks. We got on a small hill so he could see over the tall grass and got setup. He was looking through the scope trying to get sighted in on one when I noticed to our left about 30 yards, there was about 20 more turkeys heading our way. They were running past so I did everything I could to get them to stop. Finally a few stopped on the other side of the fence and Brent picked out the one he wanted. He got the turkey in the crosshairs of his scope and BANG!!! I didn't see if he hit it because all of the turkeys went crazy when he shot. He told me "I dropped it". I just thought he was bs'ing me but when we got up to the fence, I could see the young jake laying in the grass. It was a heck of a shot just over some tall grass and through a cattle fence. He was very excited and so was I. I couldn't have been happier.http://www.myoutdoorforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

This was his 2nd hunt, the first we hunted with Buff in Mason and Brent took his first deer. Now on his second hunt, he takes a turkey. His daddy is still turkey-less in his career. http://www.myoutdoorforum.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
