The last EC meeting is done and I have the notes. From here on out we will posting the highlights of the EC meetings here. If you have any questions after the meeting notes are posted just ask here. Myself or another EC member will get back to you.

New EC members: Myself (Steve Whittington) and Debbie Keeling were appointed as area reps. I'll be taking an area 75 position and Debbie has an area 77 position. According to the by-laws the president can appoint people to fill empty positions with the approval of the EC. Thanks to everyone for letting me help out.

Tournement: The regionals are going along well. This weekend there was a good tournout. Steve Davis is also getting bids for new belt buckles to be awarded. If you have any input or ideas that will help Steve give him a call or an email. Steve appreciates any help he can get.

Magazine: The newest magazine is out. It did go through a little delay but that is taken care of. We have more back issues of the magazine. If you are attending an event and wish to hand out magazines contact Jane Lassman. She can cordinate getting back issues to you.

Website: Gary Lassman is working to set up a paypal account for the LSBA. This will be taking place asap. LSBA memberships and merchandise will be available via paypal. Also, as this progresses all LSBA transactions will be available on paypal. That will include tournament preregistrations and hunt preregistrations.
We are also looking to increase sponsors and advertisers on the website. At this time we are looking into the prices charged and such so we can set a far price for advertising on our site. If you know of someone that may be interested keep us informed. As soon as we are ready to accept new advertisements we will post it here.

Banquet: The banquet committee is still researching options for the upcoming banquet. Also, they are looking for future locations as well. If you can help them out that would be greatly appreciated. Contact Debbie Keeling for more info. Also, we are looking at making this years banquet an informal dress as opposed to the formal dress it has been in the past. Lets hear your comments.

Public hunting: We spent considerable time talking about ways to improve public bowhunt. Some of the key points brought up by Bob Wright (Beleg) were about under utilization of the oppurtunities out there now. When he has spoke with TP&W officials in the past they have commented on lack of participation. Gary Dick pointed out some of the problems with trying to move the hunts to weekends and such to increase participation. Bob has a contact at TP&W and is going to continue to pursue this topic with them. Anyone that may have input or want to help can contact Bob. One new item we are going to offer the TP&W is to post stand-by positions on our site. This will be totally new and hopefully they will take us up on this. Each year many stand-by positions go unused. Hopefully we can help take care of that.

Hunting: Bowfishing on LCRA controlled waters has come under attack. Apperantly there has been a law in effect for some time that prohibits the use of any weapon capable of firing a projectile on LCRA waters. In the past this was not heavily enforced when it came to bowfishermen in boats. A group of carp catch and release fisherman (yea, I thought it was crazy too) have attacked bowfisherman and our sport. They don't want the carp killed!? :? If you can help in anyway you should. We need to contact the LCRA and show our support for bowfishing. The carp guys have a website but I didn't write it down. Bob had told us how they were claiming a victory for putting a stop to bowfishing on the LCRA waters. Now we apperently have enemies in the ranks of fishermen.

That pretty much covers the latest EC meeting. If I missed anything of importance I'm sure one of the other EC members will fill in. If there is anything you would like on the agenda for the next meeting contact your area rep or your president Gary Dick.

Thanks Steve, looks like some things are starting to roll. Hope the new EC can keep it rolling.

Are there THAT many catch and release carp fishermen??? WOW. Well, we shouldn't let them slip through the cracks on this. Find us an email addy so we can shoot some messages their way.

Steve and Debbie, glad to have you onboard the EC. Debbie has served in the past, Steve is new to the EC and has lots of great input and fresh ideas. I want to thank Steve for volunteering to post the notes from the EC meetings on the forum. This is the fastest way to get this information out to the membership, and Steve volunteered to handle this task. Thanks again. Looking forward to working with both of you this year and making this on of the best years ever for the LSBA.

Yeah, I can't think of two better people to serve on the board of Reps. Glad you took it on Steve and Deb.

Looking forward to helping out anyway I can.

Losthawg, you might get ahold of Beleg. I think he had the website for the carp fishermen and I think Ron Collier had the info for the LCRA. I may be wrong (probably) but I hope that helps.

Great job Steve!

So you and Beleg are both area 75 reps? Who is covering area 76?

Thanks again for all you do for the LSBA.

Thanks Linedawg for posting a summary of the EC meeting. I know it took a lot of effort to take the notes and write the summary. Also, welcome Steve and Debbie to the EC. We appreciate it.

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) issue is still not defined yet and I would suggest not doing an email campaign until our representatives get a chance to speak to LCRA officials. There may not be a whole lot to it at this time but we are going to check into it to be sure. If an email or letter writing campaign is in order then ya'll will be the first to know.

Here's the issue in a nut shell. The carp fishermen are claiming a victory because up to now the below statutes have not been enforced as they relate to bowfishing. The carp fishermen say they have convinced TPWD and LCRA to start enforcement. Their claim may not be accurate and we need clarification before proceeding.
Chapter 62 of Parks & Wildlife Code (62.081) states:

Linedawg, this is a positve step, is it possible that we can get the next meeting date and time posted under events? How about scheduled events other than meetings? How about financials when and where are they to be available? Many of that work and travel need more than 30 days to make arrangements to attend. Many of us are also very interested in the financials. Let us know where we can help you help us!

Great job again Bob. You are the picture king! :) I knew you have more info on the bowfishing than I did. Thanks for stepping in.

Hogslayer, if I remember right the notice for the meeting goes out 14 days before the meeting. I think that is in the by-laws but I'm not 100% on that. At any rate, even we don't necessarily know 30 days in advance. I was talking to some folks at the last meeting and if the info I have is correct the next meeting will be in Corpus Christi August 7 @ 1:00. When I get my notification I'll post it again in the events as you ask. The only other events I know of at this time are the tournaments. They could be posted under events if they are not already. You might contact Steve Davis about that. Your area rep should be able to send you a copy of the financial statement. I don't know what area you are in for sure. Contact your rep (if it's not me! ) and give them a chance to help you. If that doesn't work or it turns out that I am your rep (75) let me know and I'll send you a copy of the last statement. Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve,

I was wondering if Bob and Yourself could help us get better financial information. I feel it would be helpful to see an accounting maybe something simple like:

Ya Know, it would be nice to see a breakdown...

number of particiipants
LSBA Members ...........................
Non Members..............................

Total Gate/Hunt Revenues.............

Fees to local Club/landowner.........
Prizes/Awards.............................

Expenses
Meals............................
Advertising....................
Transportation................
Lodging.........................
Misc (describe)...............

Total Revenue to the LSBA...........

This is not complex and it would be a great health indicator. I think after each hunt, tournament this would be a great addition to post and it could be a requirement to get it on the site just as it is for the 3D scores.

What are your thoughts?

Bob, the profit and loss statement I have from the last meeting is similar to that. I will send it to you if you would like. I do not want to post it on here for the simple fact that some people that visit this site may not be our friends. Any LSBA member can get this info. Either by making a meeting, contacting their area rep, contacting Janie Lassman or one of the other EC members. Like I said, I will send this to you. If I start getting request from everyone I'll back out because I'm picking up the tab for the mail. I will take care of eveyone in area 75 if need be. PM me you snail mail addy and I'll get them out to you.

I have it on the computer and will be glad to email it to any member. Email me at lassmann@cox-internet.com with your name and address so I can verify membership and I'll get you out a copy. Linedawg, I'll email you and the rest of the EC a copy tonight, then you can save the postage and email whenever possible. As you stated, with this being a public forum, open to anyone (not all of whom are our friends) posting this information is not something that we are inclined to do. I have looked at many websites for organizations or businesses, none of them post financial information for public viewing.
We will be glad to provide this information to any current member of LSBA. Briefly an overview of the 3D shoots, Non-members pay more to shoot than members. Of the gate, a portion comes off the top to defray trophy expenses. The remainder is split 50/50 with the hosting club. There are no motel, meal, lodging, travel, etc expenses as was alluded to. We all do this as volunteers to promote the LSBA and to have fun. We also sign up new members at every shoot. Hopefully this will answer the questions regarding financial information. The EC is not by any means attempting to "hide" any financial information from our members, but do not feel that this is public information.

Thanks for posting the info Gary. I'm still learning a lot of this and appreciate the help.
