Carbon Arrows

I am moving up to "high tech" with carbon arrows for my recurve. I have browsed the catalogs and found several different brands. what is the difference other than cost? a little insight would be appreiciated. my interesr is strictly hunting.

I use Cabon Express Terminator 45/60 arrows and have been very happy with them. They are not the most expensive.

Walking Eagle you can't go wrong with either Gold Tips or Carbon Express. Both are more than affordable and perform well.

My favorite thing with Carbons is that their either STRAIGHT or they're BROKEN....

remember you are useing a recurve so you might want to use weight tube so you can get your kinetic energy up. any carbon arrow on the market would work good for you i use redhead carbon fury there only 39.95 for a doz. at bass pro and they have past through rams whitetail and hogswith the greatest of ease.

Walkingeagle, I'm going to bring a couple of recurves to Cotulla. I'll bring a wild assortment of wood, aluminum and some carbon and we can try em all. I'll bring one or possible two bales if Ronnie has room for them, but you might throw one on the trailer two, that way we can shoot different ranges. I'd like to try your carbons too, if you've got them by then.

Another Gold Tip fan here. First heard about them from Byran Keeling at Bugscuffle, then Larry Zimmerman at Z's Archery in Sabinal sold me a dozen at the 2001 Callaghan Ranch Shoot Out. Been hooked ever since. Fly like darts out of my 48@28 Recurve and with some additional weighting in the shaft....fly like darts as well out of my 62# old compound.

Thanks for the in-put. It is interesting to see a lot of things come full circle in the world of archery. Back in the '60's, fiberglass arrows arrived on the market, and I shot the "Browning Microflites" for several years, and had good results. They were heavier than the present day carbons, but I don't think they were as tough as far as everyday abuse. Like the fiberglass, they are straight or broke!
I did make a purchase, I chose to opt for the mid-range cost, being Carbon Express/Terminator Hunter 4560/River Bottom Camo Pattern. I put 5" feathers on one end and the Montec G-5 125 grain 3-blade on the other end. (Having shot the Snuffer 3 blade for years, I like the hole and blood trail 3 blades make.)
I am extremly pleased with the way the carbons perform out of my Bob Lee.

Never tried carbons. Tried some graffalloy once but did not like them. Always been an aluminum man because I too shoot three blade snuffers and am not sure how they would fly with carbons. Anybody out there ever shot carbons and snuffers? Let me know. I am old fashion but not amune to change.

I shoot cedar and 2 blade Deltas. I have yet to shoot a carbon that wasn't noisey. I hope you find what you need.

Of course, I know a lot of folks that'll swear by carbons. They just don't work for me.

Losthawg, is it the shaft or the fletching that are noisy, I recently re-fletched a few of my carbons for a similar reason, on the re-curve they seemed noisy, so I re-fletched, haven't had time to shoot, cleaning up after the storms, had to get ny target deer outta a tree! hope to shoot next weekend and will let you know the results.

Carbon shafts seem noisier to me (leastwise when I pull them across moleskin). Anyone got a shaft quietener?

I shoot the Wensel Woodsman cut to tip 3 blades (Slimmer profile then magnus) on my GoldTips. The Woodsmans are a 3-1 Ratio and fly like darts. Though I do modify my arrows and broadheads somewhat. I melt 40grs of #8 lead shot into the tip of my Wensels (total weight is 165gr) then use the short glue in adapters. Makes for a nice heavy leading edge broadhead. Then I put a full length piece of .090 weedwacker string into the shaft for additional weight. Have not weighed them, but would wager they are over 600grs this way. They fly great out of my 48@ 28 recurve and out of my old Carroll-Maruder compound set at 62#'s. On my compound I am using the old Star-Hunter rest with bear hair glued to the prongs (as is used on the side plate of my recurve) and they are whisper quiet.

Sure, they make a shhhhh type sound as you draw them back, I can deal with that. What I don't like is the clack when they leave the string. I've tried different shafts and get the same result. Maybe it's a spine issue, maybe a weight, or even the nocks may be too loose or tight. Either way, I just like the lore of wood shafts to the point that taking the time and spending the money to find the right carbon just isn't worth the effort. Especially, since I've tried and proven POC/wood. "If it's not broke..."
